Real life Solomon Miser will take you from his homestead into the hills of Deer Creek to reminisce about coming to California before the gold rush, the wagon train he led West and his neighbors and early settlers like Jared Sheldon, Bill Daylor and William Hartnell.
Join Deer Creek Hills historian David Scharlach as he tells of the amazing first owners of Deer Creek Hills including a cowboy Casanova, a drunken scoundrel and murderer, the intrepid teenage daughter (and survivor) of George Donner and the rancher whose fight with the government over this land went right up to the U. S. Supreme Court.
This outing will take you over a moderate 3-mile hike. Gates open at 8:45, hike out by 9:00, back by noon.
The road to access Deer Creek Hills is not paved. 4WD, higher clearance vehicles are recommended, but not required.
All events are subject to weather conditions. If there is rain projected, event will likely be canceled. Registered guests will be notified by Thursday evenings and the event will be labeled as canceled on the website.
Smoking is prohibited on the preserve.
No dogs allowed, except working service dogs.
